Declare! is the first event of the FLI Program Year where new students work with one another from across the Bay to create a manifesto for change that they'll attempt to fulfill during their time with FLI.

Students are grouped according to the interest they indicate at their registration and spend the evening working with FLI Guides, Mentors and Alumni to come up with a short statement for how they plan on changing their communities and the world.

Manifestos are written in the following areas:

  • Environmentalism
  • Social Justice
  • Entrepreneurship & Business
  • Health & Nutrition
  • Education

Each statement is then presented to the group at the end of the evening.

At this event, students:

  • Exercise team-work and communication skills
  • Build communities between schools
  • Identify commonalities and diversity amongst their ideas
  • Share important information about similar project interests
  • Work with mentors, teachers & alumni
  • Practice important public speaking skills

Students leave Declare! with a clear sense of purpose and direction on how they're going to embark on their FLI journey. This is a mandatory FLI event. All students are expected to attend.
